Akes Family

Hello,

I am posting to this forum because I have many questions. To begin: The only people named Akes that I've ever known are my parents; my mother and grandfather. They are both deceased now and I know of no other family relatives on my grandfather's side of the family. My first question is; where does this name come from? Is it German??? Here is a real kicker: I am black, so was my mother and grandfather. So, I think Akes may be a slave name. I was told once that my grandfather was from Bastrop. I'm not sure if that is Bastrop, Louisiana or Texas. I was born and raised in Texas. My grandfather's name was James "Jim" Akes and born Oct. 4, 188?. Can someone help me or shed some light on my dark ancestry? Thanks for any help at all.
