Wash Lott?
I am trying to find out who this man is listed below.
Greene Co., MS Marriages:
LOTT, Wash (to) BRANNAN, Celia 1878 April,24.
I am trying to find my Lott line who at one time lived in Greene Co., MS, around the Hattiesburg, MS area in Covington Co., and Perry Co., MS.
Looking for Alice Artis Lott's siblings:
John Claiborne Lott (have info on him)
Thomas S. Lott (I have that he married Mary E. Aultman but may be mistaken)
Robert J. "Bob" Lott (b. abt. 1858)
Catherine "Katie" Lott (b. 1856 MS, married James Llowellyn "Bud" Adams, eventually settling into Rapides Parish, LA)
Francis "Betty" Lott (b.?)
Jefferson "Jeff" Lott (b. abt 1861 MS, married Mordie?, their children were: Sallie, Harrison, Robert, Johnny, and Maggie, I also have he may have died in Vernon Parish, LA)
Charles B. Lott (b. 1879...has to be half brother of Alice since Alice's father John Lott died on route home from the Civil War...she's in the household of George Washington Lott after the war and her mother Mary Watts.)
Rachel Marcella Lott (half sister to Alice, b. Jun 1867 MS, d. bef. 1920, married James Henry Brewer of Greene Co., MS)
Martha Penelope Lott (b. Abt. 1849, married Joseph Wesley Cowart in Greene Co., MS. Joseph died in Hattiesburg, MS, Forrest Co.)
George Washington "Wash" Lott (b. abt 1863, MS)
Note: Alice always spoke of her brothers and sisters, Wash, Tom, Bob, John, Katie, Betty, and Jeff. She told the family that still remember the stories that her father was John Lott and her mother was Mary Watts. That her father died on route home from the Civil War and that two of his brothers were with him. She stated that Mary Watts had died within 2 years of her father, leaving her and her siblings to be raised by her oldest brother which would have been John Claiborne Lott...the man with many wives.
Alice said she grew up playing in the Pearl River as a child and that she lived on an Indian Reservation.
Alice married Stephen William Garner b. in Lawrence Co., MS. They settled in Winn Parish, LA.
Alice's daughter Beulah is my great Grandmother.
I'm at a loss. A total loss.
Researchers say that Alice's father was "George Washington Lott" who married Mary Watts.
Her death cert. says Alice's father was "John Lott & Mary Watts". It says John Lott b. in Mobile, AL and Mary Watts b. in Hattiesburg, MS.
I also found a "Mary Watts" in Louisiana....but apparently through a different line? But this line of Watts I found married into a family who one of Alice's sisters also married into. They were all related somehow.
If anyone recognizes these names or this line of Lott's who's last name may have been LOTTE at one time...don't hesitate to respond! Alice was 1/2 Indian...of what tribe I am not sure...the family says Choctaw. On her death cert. it listed her as 1/2 mexican because the coroner didn't realize she was half Indian.
Sincerely
Shelly Belk
