Mike: Have you visited the David Rumsey Map Collection website? If not, it is fantastic:

Just do a search for "Louisiana" (upper right) and you'll find close to 400 maps of Louisiana. You can enlarge and view sections of each maps. The ones I viewed are very detailed yet no Shooter Station that I could find. A few of particular relevance are:

Cram's Railroad & Township Maps of Louisiana (1875, Geo. F. Cram)

Rand McNally World Atlas, Louisiana, 1897

US General Land Office, State of Louisiana, 1879

Eastern US, No. 9, Lett's Popular Atlas, Letts, Son & Co. 1883

The last one (Lett's) allows you to trace the rail lines from Alabama into Louisiana. There was in fact a rail line from various points in Alabama through Mississippi (Meridian, Jackson and Vicksburg). It picked up on the other side of the river in Madison Parish and continued west. Yet, I can't find Shooter Station although my searches have been cursory.

Yes, I was born and raised in New Orleans and use to travel extensively throughout TX, LA, AR, MS, AL, GA, etc.on business. I also have connections through my folks to Arkansas. My maternal great-grandfather was a contractor in LR and built many fine old homes which still stand in the Quapaw Section. His father was partners with C. C. Danley in "The Arkansas Gazette" and after Danley's death he became sole owner for a very short time. I have many ancestors buried in Mt. Holly and Oakland. I also have ancestral connections to Phillips and Lee Counties. So much for family history.....sorry I couldn't find Shooter Station, maybe you will have some luck with the maps. Rick
