I should have specified the northern part of the state re: crossing the Mississippi. I guess it's possible that the family entered south-eastern Louisiana without crossing the Mississippi but your mention of Vicksburg caused me to concentrate in that area. Maybe you could dig up some old rail line maps for the time. It might help narrow down their possible route. Rick
