My grandmother was Lee Lois Bretz, maiden name was Richard. She was born in Medford, Taylor Co, Wisc. I recently purchased a copy of her original application for a SS card, which she applied in New Orleans, LA. Father listed as William Lester Richard & Mother as Helen Pearl McComb. My grandmother for reasons unknown never told a family member about her past. Only that she has a twin sister and she traveled with a friend to Mississippi when she was 16. According to the application, she applied for a SS card in New Orleans, LA 1945 one month before she married my grandfather, she was 18. Her address was the Stratford Hotel. I have her marriage License, she was married in Mississippi, story goes that she and a friend traveled to Miss. Meet two men in a restaurant, one of those men was my grandfather. It is weird that she never ever spoke of her family. Whenever we asked we would get different stories. She applied for SS 1 month before she married by grandfather. My grandfather was in the Air force during WWII, they were married 5/10/1945. My grandmother had her Obit written out before she died. When my grandfather died in 1999, she has everything set for when she died. My dad or his sisters did not write her obit. My grandmother had it handwritten out in 1999. Family followed her wishes and posted her obit in her exact words. No name was given for the twin. Over the years she has always told family members her father's name was William Oakman Richards, mom's name was Pearl Helen Nelson. That is how it is listed in my Aunt's Bible. They were surprised to find out the names were different on her SS application. So I guess we are at a stand still, until I get information from the Vital of Wisc. I applied for her Birth Certificate, and it was not cheap. No records were found. I have come to a stand still. If anyone may have suggestions to where, when, or whom, that may help would greatly appreciate it. Please if anyone can help!!!! I would like to know more about my grandmother side of the family.
