Thanks Paulaine, Yes this is the Azarie I am researching. It seems he married Celestine Fruge in 1874, I found the marriage in Father Hebert books, I have not been able to find any children between them or where Celestine may have passed away.
The next thing I find on him is children between him and Marie Louise Marjolet (this info comes from the Father Hebert books also and Marjolet is spelled different for each child).
The stories I have heard is that Marie Marjolet was Indian and when Azarie married her (if there was a marriage) his family disowned him and his trail just disappears until his death record in 1916.
I am now able to go forward on the Simon family but am getting absolutely no place with Marie Marjolet. The only time a Marjolet appears in the Father Hebert books is where she is listed with Azarie as the mother of the children. All of the children were born around the Mermentau area.
I have tried searching the census and come up with no matches when I put Marjolet in.
Do you think I need to start checking out Indian records for a marriage? If so do you have any suggestions on how to go about that?
