In the 1810 Iberville census, in eastern Iberville (St. Gabriel and Galveztown and what have you) there are 3 families of related Yarbroughs.Because they were among the few families in proximity with my John Lee family (whose descendants later moved to the Sorrento area), I did some research on them.
Here's a quick look at what I turned up:
1. William Yarbrough m. Diana Smith
2. James Smith Yarbrough m1. Mary Jourdain O'Neal m2. Maria Del Carmen Perez
(J.S. Yarbrough was in Iberville in 1810; the last 2 kids are Maria's)
3. Genevive Smith Yarbrough
m. Juse "Joseph" Martin, 1796
3. Jane Yarbrough
m. Aurelien/Orillien Jean Charles Kling
3. Jourdain "Gordon" Yarbrough b. ca 1777?
m. Jeanne Cossett/Cosse, 1805
3. James Smith Yarbrough, Jr. b. ca 1812
(probably the other J.S. Yarbrough in the 1810 Iberville census)
m. Maria Antonio del Carmen (widow Perez) ???
3. John Yarbrough
m. Maria Antonio del Carmen (widow Rodriguez) ???
3. William Yarbrough
(probably the Wm. Yarbrough in the 1810 Iberville census)
3. Anna Yarbrough
3. Richard Yarbrough
3. Maria Yarbrough
3. Joseph Oswald Yarbrough b. 14 Jul 1803
m. Marie Isabelle "Elizabeth" Gonzales
3. Diego Yarbrough
I have some data on earlier lineages, but you can view it by going to the Yarbrough Forum and looking for message 935.Also, it appears that James Smith Yarbrough and his family came to LA in the 1790's after first moving to the Natchez area in the 1770's (he got a land grant there from the Spanish).
I got this information from multiple sources and a lot of it conflicts, but that should give you the general idea.I have more if you want it.Some of it came from Russell Henderson, who often posts on this Forum, and who descends from the Jane Yarbrough noted above.Russell - if you're reading this, please email me at dennisATgazinkus.com.
One last note.My John Lee family is officially listed in Iberville Parish, until the generation that moves down to and helps found Sorrento. The Yarbroughs are nearby. But, when I tracked down the actual location of the John Lee homestead, it was in Ascension Parish, along the old St. Gabriel to Galveztown Road (LA 74), just west of Dutchtown. That was probably also true of your Yarbrough / Yarboroughs.(Check also Harborough, Yarbury... those clerks in that timeframe were dangerous.)
Good luck,
Dennis Lee
