Maybe Scarber and Scarborough were interchangable surname, I don't know. I do know that I could not find Allen on the 1850, 1860 nor 1870 census no matter how I soundexed or wildcarded his names.

As for Rebecca (Watson), in the 1860 census I come up with 2 close matches, depending on what time frame you want to give her for birth:
Rebecca Watson Not Stated, Rapides, LA 11 abt 1849 Louisiana Female
household:
William Watson 45
Sarah Ann Watson 35
Timothy Watson 17
Tempy Watson 15
Catharine Watson 13
Rebecca Watson 11
Sarah Ann Watson 9
Park Watson 7
John Watson 1

Rebecca Watson Not Stated, Rapides, LA 3 abt 1857 Louisiana Female
Ezekiel Watson 38
Amanda Watson 28
Henry Watson 13
Martha Jane Watson 9
James M Watson 7
Letha Ann Watson 5
Rebecca Watson 3
Nancy Watson 2

On these census, there is also a Ben Scarber, in Vernon County, who was born abt 1866. Could he be related to Allen??? 1900 census shows Ben born Feb 1866, LA MS LA; wife Mary Oct 1878, they've been married 10 years, 3 children: Henry J, Lulamay and Lerenda.
I also could not locate him on previous census.
