Hi Nikki.

If you have any idea when Samuel or Annie died, you can order their death certificates. Those death certificates should give you the names of their parents. I checked the Texas Death Index, 1964-1988, and did not see them listed. They likely died before that.

I think this is a strong possibility for your Samuel in the 1900 census. This county is very close to Van Zandt, where he married a year later.
1900 United States Federal Census > Texas > Ellis > Justice Precinct 7 > District 32 > Page 16B
Dwelling 283/Family 284
Owns farm free
Robert E Orr, head, white, male, b Sep 1842, 57, married for 31 years, he and parents b TN, farmer, reads, writes
Martha? J, wife, white, b Dec 1848, 51, married for 31 years, bore 12 children, all surviving, b Arkansas, father b SC, mother b VA, reads and writes
Minnie E, daughter, white, b Sep 1875, 24, single, b TX, reads and writes
Laura A, daughter, white, b March 1877, 23, b TX, reads and writes
Lafayette H, son, white, b Jan 1879, 21, single, b TX, at school, reads and writes
Samuel, Son, b Feb 1881, 19, b TX, at school, reads and writes
Elizabeth C, daughter, white, b jan 1883, 17, b TX, at school, reads and writes
John K, son, white, b Jan 1885, 15, b TX, at school, reads and writes
Oliver, son, white, b Apr 1887, 12, b TX, at school, reads and writes
William C, son, white, b Nov 1888, 11, b TX, at school, reads and writes
Dooly, son, white, b Nov 1892, 7, b TX

The same family is still in Ellis County, but without their son Samuel, which fits since your Samuel was living elsewhere:
1910 United States Federal Census > Texas > Ellis > 7-Pct > District 145 > Page 14A
Dwelling 215/Family 215
Robert E Orr, head, male, white, 66, married for 41 years, he and parents b TN
Mattie J, wife, white, no age listed, married for 41 years, bore 12 children, all surviving, b Arkansas, parents b SC
Bettie C, daughter, white, 27, b TX
John K, son, white, 25, single, b TX
Jack Orr, son, white, 23, b TX
William C, son, white, 21, single, b TX
Earnest A, son, white, 17, b TX

This looks to be the same family in 1880:
1880 United States Federal Census > Texas > Ellis > All Townships > District 53 > Page 566C
Dwelling 2/Family 2
Robert E Orr, white, male, 37, married, farmer, he and parents b TN
Mattie J, white, female, 31, wife, keeping house, b Arkansas, father b N Carolina, mother b Arkansas
Lee, whitte, male, 9, son, b TX
Thomas, white, male, 8, son, b TX
Edgar, white, male, 6, son, b TX
Minnie, white, female, 5, daughter, b TX
Laura, white, female, 3, daughter, b TX
Haley, white, male, 1, son, b TX
Abram Robertson, white, male, 25, boarding, laborer, he and parents b TN

As I guess, I would say this is the same Robert Orr with his parents in 1870. The names of his siblings are names he eventually gave his children, and I think the 20 year old Martha J. is actually Robert's wife:
1870 United States Federal Census > Texas > Ellis > Red Oak > Page 6
Dwelling 41/Family 41
Henry G. Orr, 34, male,w hite, farmer, b TN
Parmer Orr, 64, male,w hite, farmer, $4000 personal property, $6000 real estate, b TN
Cynthia, 60, white, keeping house, b TN
Lafayette, 30, male,w hite, at home, b TN
James, 29, male, white, at home, b TN
Robert, 28, male, white, at home, b TN
Mary Jane, 20, female, white, b TN
Martha J, 20, female, white, b TN
Samuel, 19, male, white, b TN

This family appears to have some very strong ties to Ellis County. Robert was still there in 1920:
1920 United States Federal Census > Texas > Ellis > Red Oak > District 146 > Page 4A
Farm (owns free)
Dwelling 74/Family 74
R.E. Orr, head, white, 77, married, reads, writes, he and parents b TN, farmer
Martha E., wife, white, 71, married, reads, writes, b Arkansas, father b NC, mother b SC
Bettie, daughter, white, 36, reads, writes, b TX
Earnest A, son, white, 26, reads, writes, b TX
Dwelling 75/Family 75
Jack Orr, head, white, 32, reads, writes, b TX
Emma, wife, white, 28, married, reads, writes, b TX
Dorie F., daughter, white, 3, b TX
Jack Jr, son, white, 1yr 8 months, b TX

By 1930 Robert was dead:
1930 United States Federal Census > Texas > Ellis > Precinct 7 > District 40 > Page 3A
Dwelling 53/Family 54
Ernest Orr, head, white, 36, single, reads, writes, b TX, father b TN, mother b Arkansas
Lee, brother, white, 52, reads, writes, b TX
Bettie, sistier, white, 47, single, reads, writes, b TX
Mattie, mother, white, 81, widowed, reads, writes, b Ark, father b SC, mother b VA

I would highly recommend that you search the Ellis County courthouse for Robert's death certificate and probate record. Because he owned so much land, there should be some type of will or probate case that lists his heirs, and his death certificate will confirm his parents. This can help you to determine if Samuel Levi Orr was actually Robert's son. I would also recommend that you look for Mattie (Martha J)'s death certificate between 1930 and 1940, and see if she has a probate record too. If you call the county courthouse, they can probably connect you to someone who can answer a lot of your questions about the records.

Good Luck!
Karen
