W. H. C. Hudgins & Victoria E. Hudgins, TX, LA, GA, & AL

W.H.C. Hudgins was my great, great grandfather. He was born either September 20, 1826 or 1829, in Georgia. He was married to Victoria E. Powell (based on the first son's middle name) in 1854. Victoria was born 2/11/1838, in Alabama, and their first son, Walter Powell Hudgins (my Grandfather) was born 5/18/1858, in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Everyone can be found in the 1860 Census, but I can find no one at any time before that, and they only turn up after that with a reference to W.H.C. in Confederate military rolls (Film # M378, Roll 14) for the 8th Louisiana Cavalry, Company H, Pvt. from Caddo Parish, LA, and with VEH and WPH, sans W.H.C. in 1880 in Robertson, Texas.

Per a Hudgins Family bible, other children of W.H.C. and Victoria were William Clarence Hudgins, 10/9/1862, Margaret Lee Hudgins, born 8/15/1867, Tabbie May Hudgins, born 5/18/1868, and Ida Francis Hudgins, who died as an infant. I know that Margaret Lee was married to a President of Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, who was also the first President of Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. As for descendants of theirs or the other children, I have yet to do that research. Walter Powell and his mother ended up in Cleburne, TX, and he married Mary Jane Oliphint of Bonham, Texas, in 1891. W.H.C., died on 3/22/1870, and it appears his family left shortly thereafter for Texas.

I am specifically looking for information on W.H.C. Hudgins or Victoria E. Powell, with relation to where they came from in Georgia and Alabama respectively. Also sorely needed is any information on ancestors or leads to re-start my now dead ended search.

Here is the link to my genealogy website. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/u/d/John-E-Hudgins/

I appreciate any help that anyone has to offer.
