Next-door to St. Landry parish is Acadia -- my Nelsons came from Denmark in the 1800's, lived in Morgan City, then settled in Crowley, which is in Acadia -- if this isn't what your looking for, Thomas, then you can stop here.
Jens Christian Nielson was born in Alsen in 1866 and emigrated around 1881, when the named changed, possibly with a brother named John.He lived in Morgan City where he married Josephine Gremaud. They then moved to Crowley where they had eight children (two of whom died young).I'm the grandson of Jens' son, Forest Christian. The name also survives through another son, Clyde.
I've just begun researching this area, spurred by Clyde's recent death and helped by the researches of a cousin into the family name.I'm looking for Nelsons descended from John and his son John, who died in New Orleans in the 60's.Also, if anyone knows of links back to Jens' parents, Christian Nielson and Anne Elisebert Schmedt, clues would be much appreciated. We have no information going back into Denmark, yet.
