Not sure if this helps.

One of the early settlers of the Ville Platte area was one William Reed, possibly from Maine.

I got interested in him because he appears in the vicinity of a John Lee. A John Lee and a William Reed also appear in Iberville Parish in 1805, and I still don't know that these two guys aren't the same ones that appear in Ville Platte, but I believe not.

Anyway, you might be able to work down from census records and see if Azema is connected to this William Reed.
