I rechecked the censuses because I thought it was strange that you didn't list the younger John Judy as living with his mother. I noticed that the entry was actually on two pages. At the top of the page after Grace were these two people, also lving in her house:
Johnny Judy, son, white, 12, single, reads, writes, attends school, b TX
Rose Heartuly, lodger, female, white, 24, single, reads, writes, she and parents b LA, Waitress at a coffee shop.
I checked the Louisiana Death Index (1900-1949) for you, and didn't find any listings for someone with the last name Judy. That would make me think that John Sr died in Texas. You can either contact the Hunt County courthouse to see if they have an index, or try the Texas State Library in Austin. They have an index to most deaths in the state after 1903. This web page tells more information about how to access this information if you don't live near the library: http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/vitalfaq.html
