[This is a copy of a reply posted to the Barrow Family forum]

I am a descendant of Matthew Barrow, close relative of Alexander Barrow, son of Wylie [also sp. Willie] Barrow of Nashville, Tn. Matthew, Wylie, Micajah, and the Barrow bunch that moved to Louisiana (see e.g. Floyd's, The Barrow's of Old LouisianaI) all seemed to have moved to middle Tennessee (primarily Davidson & Sumner) counties at generally the same time.
Unfortunately, neither Wylie nor Matthew were very vocal about exactly who they were. Wylie came from North Carolina, married Jane "Gensey" Greer, dau. of Andrew Greer, one of the largest landowners and founders of Carter Co, Tn. Matthew "arrived on horseback" from Georgia, was born in Greene Co, North Carolina (at a time when Tennessee was still part of North Carolina) and was the son of James Barrow. About the same time that Olivia Ruffin Barrow, wife of William Barrow, Jr (dec.) moved from North Carolina to Sumner County, Tennessee, with most of her children, before moving again about two years later (ca. 1800) to Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. (Her sons Bennett and Bartholomew initially remained in North Carolina and her son Ruffin remained in Tennessee. Bennett and Bartholomew later moved to Louisiana and Ruffin remained in Tennessee. He died in Sumner County in 1799.)

It looks like, but is by no means established that all three groups (William, Wylie & Matthew) are descendants of Thomas Barrow of Virginia. William & his descendants (Louisiana) are clearly from Virginia via the Edgecombe, NC area. Wylie & Matthew appear to be most likely from the Dobbs (Old) County, North Carolina bunch.

Will be glad to share with you what I've got.
s/Matt
