Herrod Allen was the son of William Allen Jr. who was b. about 1800, probably in Marion County, South Carolina. His grandparents were William Allen Sr., b. 1748, d. Oct. 31, 1836, Marion County, SC, m. abt. 1774, Anna _____ (Poss. Bennett). He had a brother, Henry B. Allen.

Herrod's first cousin, Rev. William Bennett Allen, founded the Amite Baptist Church in Livingston Parish Oct. 9, 1841.
