Grambling was named after a white, European American sawmill owner, P.G. Grambling. Many of the communities in this area began as sawmill towns. Most of those mills are now closed and many of the towns that grew up around them are still struggling to survive. Grambling, however, is a growing community. In 1901, Grambling became home to the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School. That school is now the well known African-American University, Grambling State University. It is home to the legendary football coach, Eddie Robinson, Sr., and home of the Tiger Marching Band.
