John S. McCormick, an airline pilot and design mechanical engineer, died Saturday at his home. He was 76. Mr. McCormick was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was chief flight instructor at Eager Aviation from 1986-87, a corporate pilot from 1987-89 and later was a consultant. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served as liaison aircraft dispatcher and radio operator for the 36th Infantry Division artillery air section. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He was a former member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Airport Advisory Committee and Lakefront Airport chairman, chairman of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Stearman Restores Association. He is survived by three daughters, Jan McCormick, Susan Schepp and Patricia Jones. A memorial service will be held today at 10 a.m. in the lobby of Lakefront Airport. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
