Boatner Community & Wyatt Post Office

My daddy grew up in the Boatner community--went to school in the old school in the 19teens and 20's before it was closed. (Have a couple of old school pictures from there.)

There was a small building I remember in the 50's, I think being used for a voting precinct. Been too long ago and I was too little--just remember a small building on what is now Boatner Road and remember people going there for some reason. Was it the old post office? From one posting elsewhere, the p.o. closed about 1915, so it wouldn't have been used for that purpose in the 50's.

Does anyone know the origin of the name Boatner for this community? Is there any records or writings about the community or the people who lived there? Was there ever any churches or stores? It seemed to cover several square miles but there's not much there now--mostly pine trees and a few houses where there used to be more farms and homeplaces.

In the 30's and 40's, my grandparents' address was Wyatt, Louisiana. They never moved from the Boatner community and Wyatt now is a long way from there to be a post office to walk to. Any insights on this??
