I have hit a dead end. My GGGGrandfather was James Younger (no known middle initial) born about 1785, South Carolina and died about 1840 Louisiana. The 1830 census shows him living in Franklin, St. Mary, Louisiana and in the household there are: 2 males of 5 and under 10; 1 male of 10 & under 15; 1 male of 40 & under 50; and 1 female of 30 & under 40
The 1840 census shows him living in Opelousas, St. Landry, Louisiana and in the household there are: 2 males 10 & under 15; 1 male 20 & under 30; 1 male 50 & under 60; 2 females under 5; 1 female 5 & under 10; & 1 female of 30 & under 40.
His daughter, my GGGrandmother was Mary Susan Amanda Younger Turner, born April 24, 1839 in St Landry, LA and died January 1, 1929 in Wellington, Collingsworth, TX.
My GGGrandmother kept a letter written by her father to “Dear Cousin Charlott” also addressed as “Miss Charlott Ingall”. It is a “repromand” for not seeing his children often enough. He speaks of: missing his little babe; being in St. Landry, LA for work; unable to send money and being ashamed; almost 60 years old; his little girls; his daughter, Louisia, who was living with a lady, and needs to stay clear of her elder brothers – Tom, Henry & Jack; a rumor that Charlotts’ aunt, Aunt Susan Warren, (also his sister) might take his little daughters once she moves to Boone County, in Missouri; he wants Jack & Henry there too because wherever they are, there is too much snow and ice. The date of the letter appears to be 10th April 1844.
I want more information about his wife (or wives) and what happened to her (them), his other children, his parents, what he did for a living, his childhood, etc. I suspect that Mary Susan Amanda was his last child. There is a family story that her skin was dark and she was part Cherokee.
