John Smith, b. in Germany, of unknown parents, died in St. Landry Parish (Opel. Ct. Hse.: Succ. #337) dated 28 July 1824.
John Smith and Ofel Vanne had a son -
John David Smith, Sr., b. in Germany, married July 02, 1825, St. Landry Par. Ct. Hse.: Mar. #29, Marie Louise LeJeune/Young, b. February 08, 1809, bt. St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, LA., d/o Joseph Lejeune/Young and Marie Louise Ritter.
John David Smith, Sr., and Marie Louise LeJeune/Young had a son -
John David Smith, Jr., b. May 05, 1831, bt. Opel. Ch., married September 22, 1855, in St. Landry Par. Ct. Hse.: Mar. #1360, Celeste F. Fruge, b. August 04, 1836, bt. Opel. Ch., d/o Francois Augustin Fruge and Marie Paul Augustin.
John David Smith, Jr. and Celeste F. Fruge had a son -
Adam Smith who married October 27, 1883, in St. Landry Par. Ct. Hse.: Mar. #12913; a validation March 11, 1886, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ville Platte, LA, Arthemise Janise, d/o Emile Janise and Marie Celeste LaCombe.
Adam Smith and Arthemise Janise had a son -
Omeral Smith who married May 28, 1906, VP Ch., Sidonia Manuel, d/o Edward Manuel and Laure Fruge.
Adam Smith and Arthemise Janise also had a daughter -
Marie Euseide Smith, b. August 08, 1884, bt. VP Ch., m. January 24, 2903, VP Ch., Emmanuel Fontenot, b. December 26, 1880, bt. VP Ch., s/o Manuel Fontenot and Lucinda Manuel.
Emmanuel Fontenot and Marie Euseide Smith had a daughter -
Marthe Fontenot, b. January 29, 1904, d. December 21, 1999, in Savoy Nursing Home, Mamou. Marthe m. #1 Moise Sonnier, s/o Arthur Erange Sonnier & Adelaide Simon Fontenot, my mother's half-brother. Moise died young of injuries sustained during service in WWI.
Marthe and Moise had one child, a son called "Lou" who died young. They left no descendants.
After Moise Sonnier died, Marthe m. Rene Vizina, a widr. with two small children, Harry and Melba.
That is why I have the above information, all of which was found in Southwest Louisiana Records by Rev. Donald J. Hebert.
