CHARLES BROWN/Norwood/ E. Feliciana/1870

I'm researching the BROWN family of Norwood, LA. We have found our earliest ancestor to be CHARLES BROWN, born around 1839, living in the 4th ward, Norwood, in the 1870 census, with wife AMANDA, born in 1848. Children were: GEORGE, WILLIAM, JAMES, and CHARLES.
Family legend has it that CHARLES (the elder) was lynched, but we have not been able to verify it. He was dead by the 1880 census.
Any/all info appreciated. Email me at KDBERR@aol.com
