Isaiah M. Thompson & Monemia Cowden m.1838 had 7 children all born in Lake Providence, East Carrol Parish, LA. I am descended from a son, Horace Eugene Thompson, b. September 15, 1843. Isaiah was born 7/6/1812 in Port Gibson, Claiborne Co., MS while Monemia was born or grew up in Eagle Lake, MS. The Thompson family had a woodlot at Miliken Bend, which supplied wood to steamboats. The Civil war apparently ruined their business and the family relocated back to Port Gibson, MS. It has been suggested that Isaiah's father was Joab Thompson, but I visited the Lake Providence Court House and found that Joab Thompson's sucession papers were missing. Monemia is the daughter of John and Elizabeth Cowden who settled on Eagle Lake, MS. I would welcome the opportunity to share information on the Cowden family and on descendents of Isaiah Thompson and Monemia Cowden. I would be particularily interested in comparing notes with others researching the same families.
