Prison in East Baton Rouge Parish - 1850

In the East Baton Rouge Parish of 1850, there is a prison where a prisoner named Zara Briggs is enumerated. Does anyone know the name of the prison and if there are any records in existence from this time frame? Zara was in jail for horsetheft. He was probably my gr-gr-gr-grandfather and I'm trying to find out what ultimately happened to him. Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
