If you are a descendant of Laban Llewelyn Tomkies and Ella Virginia Goodwyn Tomkies and if you are interested in the old cemetery where your ancestors are buried please participate in the restoration of Old Hazelwood Cemetery in Desoto Parish Louisiana. The Tomkies and Goodwyn family plots are among those family plots which are in dire need of tombstone and grave vault repair.
A cemetery fund was set up at a bank in Grand Cane Louisiana in hopes there are people and descendants who would like to participate in the restoration of this cemetery.

In 2007 the restoration project of Old Hazelwood Cemetery began with a clean up of the cemetery grounds. All fallen trees, broken limbs, underbrush and debris was removed from the cemetery grounds. A fence was built around the entire cemetery. Gravestones were cleaned. On the 15th and 16th of November 2007, twelve broken gravestones were repaired by professional workers. The average cost of repair which also includes leveling the stones is about one hundred dollars per gravestone. Our goal for 2008 is to have all of the gravestones in the entire cemetery repaired. Please help us reach this goal. The cemetery fund needs donations if we are to accomplish the goal of repairing every broken gravestone in the cemetery. This cemetery is 160 years old in the year of 2008 and a vital piece in the history of Desoto Parish Louisiana.
