The "Probate Records" from the 1700's thru 1900 are housed in the LSU Archives in Shreveport, LA. They also have the records of a number of N.W. Louisiana Parishes from the past through 1900. In Louisiana the "Probate Records" are called "Succession Papers".

I found my Great-Grandfather, John Hiram WILLIAMS's Succession Papers from 1853 at the Archives in Shreveport and learned that he was born in VA and that his first wife's father Hiram Singletary was also born in VA.
