I would like to correspond with any descendents of John Pitman, born December 1822 in Louisiana (possibly near Catahoula Parish) and died in Texas 1907.

Preliminary searches show that John married an "Elizabeth" before 1863. (I believe this "Elizabeth" might possibly be Elizabeth M. Arnherst who married a John Pittman, in Franklin Parrish, LA on 1-25-1844)

John Pitman and Elizabeth would be found in Van Zandt County, Texas census in 1850. Listed with them were their children:

Deborah Pitman-b 1845-1846
Manerva Pitman-b abt 1847
Harriet Pitman-b May 6, 1849
Isaac Pitman-b. May 1854
Andrew Pitman-b 1856

By September 13, 1863, Elizabeth would be gone and John would marry Lenora Gambling in Hopkins County, Texas.

To this marriage was born:

W. Eugenia Pitman- b abt 1865
Mary J. Pitman-b abt 1867
Lucinda Pitman-b abt 1870
Sam Pitman-b abt 1871

By September 3, 1874 John would marry Lurainie Ann (Anderson) Robertson/Robinson...who had a son named Gilbert by a previous marriage. John and Lurainie would have three more children:

Lillian Mae Pitman born Feb 4, 1877
Lila Pitman born 1881-1882
Nannie Pitman born aft 1880

The family would be found in the 1880 census in Hunt Co, Texas and would be in Wood County, Texas by 1900.

The only other information I have been able to find on John Pitman is his Confederate pension application of September 29, 1899 in Hopkins County, Texas where he says he served in Co. "F" 9th Texas Regiment Infantry.

I'm also working on supposition that he is related to a Julius Pitman b abt 1784 NC who also seemed to be from Catahoula/Franklin/Natchitoches Parishes in Louisiana before 1850. This Julius would show up in 1850 in Hopkins County, Texas with wife Frances and children: John, Harriet, Sarah, Jas A., Mary A. and Rebecca J. Pitman.
