J.A. Farar - 1860 - ALPA P.O.

J A Farar appears in 1860 census index for Caldwell County (Parish) with an Alpa PO. (I am assuming PO is an abbreviation for Post Office since it appears in a geographic area column, mostly comprised of what I assume are church Parish names, such as Oak Grove and Courthouse.) I cannot find any record of there being a post office in LA named ALPA. Can anyone tell me if there ever was one?

Also, can anyone do a look-up for me in the 1860 census on J A FARAR and advise if he has a son born in 1854 whose name might fit the initials of J S, my great grandfather (J S FARAR) found to be living in 1900 in Delta County, Texas with his wife and six children, one of them being my 11 month old future grandmother? That census shows JS to have been born in 1854 in LA and is the only time I have been able to find him in census records, so I am taking this shot in the dark. I will be ordering 1860 Caldwell LA census tomorrow through interlibrary loan but it will take three weeks for me to receive it <smile>.

Thanks for any responses.

Fritz Hansen, Wichita, Kansas
