Lucius Vann natural son of William D. Vanarsdel and his former slave cook Susie or perhaps Sophia was born ca. 1860 died in 1933/34. Little is known about this man, other than when he was interviewed about witnessing the murder of William D. Vanarsdale, a planter who lived in Filmore, Bossier Parish in 1867. He might have had a sister Kate, who married Lorenze Marshall.

Eliza Sergeant/Sergin, Williams housekeeper and cook, a former slave, had four children with William D. Vanarsdel prior to Susie, they were Union/Vincent b. 1852, Canada b. 1854, Grandison b. 1855, and Pennie b. 1858 who married Jerome Myers. The children used the name Vanarsdel, but their children took the name Vann. William D. Vanarsdel was known as Capt. Vann and his plantation originally the Vineyard, later known as the Van Place was located on what are now the grounds of the Minden National Guard originally the LA Army Ammunition Depot near Doyline and Minden, LA in Webster Parish. Some of their children moved to Caddo Parish.

I am very interested in finding out more about Lucius Vann as well as the Vann descendants of Eliza Sergeant.
