In my experience it's not likely to find the cause of death in an obituary although sometimes you can infer the possible cause by a statement such as "....in lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society..." but even that is not proof enough. The proof you need will be on the DC. Unfortunatley, Louisiana archives death certificates for 50 years from the event. So unless you are immediate family (son/daughter, spouse, sibling) or legal representative, you won't be able to obtain a copy until 2011. Of course you should double-check me on that by contacting the vital records office.
