Vicki, we corresponded via Gen Forum in 2002. I was working on the children of Richard Thompson and Lucinda New. Richard is the s/o Dickerson Thompson and Susannah Daughtery (or some version thereof) Thompson Davis. Susannah was the d/o Elizabeth and Thomas Daughtery.
I will give you my conclusions on the fifth child of Richard and Lucinda, William J. You refer to him as William James. I did not find a reference to James. Richard and Lucinda did have a son James born ca. 1829.
William J. was born ca. 1839, age 11 and 22 on the 1850 and 1860 census. He was at home in 1850 and 1860. On 19 March 1861 he married Nancy Jane Keith (WC Marriage Bonds, MF Roll 591551, KY State Archives, Frankfort, KY). It appears the bondsman was Cyren--- Keith, probably a brother of Nancy Jane. Cyrenous was a s/o John and Delila Keith (Family Tree - Miller, Keith and Kin by Ione Miller Ambrister, 2nd Edition, on file at the Wayne Co. KY Library, Monticello, KY). John married Susannah Thompson d/o Greenberry Thompson (brother of Richard) and Margaret (Peggy) Dodson.
John and Delila had a daughter named Nancy. She was at home on the 1850 and 1860 Pulaski Co. KY census, ages 15 and 22.
It appears Nancy Jane died prior to the 1880 census. The wife of William J. on the 1880 Wayne Co. census was Mary A., age 26. Mary (Polly Ann) was the d/o Green B. Flynn and Sallie Johnson (Death Certif. #03140 23 Nov. 1912 - certificate was filed in 1913).
Children on the 1880 Wayne Co. census were Shadrach, Thomas, Charlie and Mary R. ages 10 to 3 and William G. age 2 months. The latter would be the child of William J. and Polly Ann. William J. and Nancy Jane had another son, John Jasper who was born 19 Feb. 1864 in Wayne County and died 15 Oct. 1947 in McCreary Co. KY (Certif. #4795). William J. and Nancy may have had additional children that did not appear on the 1880 census.
