I have no direct evidence to connect Martha Barnes to Barry Barnes but there is circumstanial evidence. When Martha's son, John M. Guffey was married the security was Barry Barnes. I also think it is interesting that Jacob City was the surety for Martha to marry William Guffey.

What I have not ever been sure of is the parentage of Jane Guffey who married Jacob City. Was she the daughter of Nicodemus or was she the widow of a Barnes. She was born circa 1793 and did not marry Jacob until 1848.

Jane was born in SC so she may have been Nichodemus' daughter. But his oldest son, John was born circa 1798 in SC. I do not have him in an 1850 census. But I have never used the Internet to search for him. My very shaky family group for Nichodemus was done on 10 Aug 1991.

Send me your thoughts on this. Estella
