I'm so glad to finally communicate with you again.
I have done quite a bit of research as to the parents of MARTHA J. BARNES.
In your email you asked about information of ELI BARNES, including his age and birthplace.
As far as I know, it has not yet been proven that Martha Barnes is the brother of Barry (or Berry) Barnes and the daughter of Nicodemus Barnes. In fact, I'm wondering if her maiden name might have been Williams.
Even our own "Guffey Guru," the late A. Joseph Guffey was apparently not aware of her parentage. In one particular posting (http://genforum.genealogy.com/guffey/messages/351.html), A. Joseph Guffey annotated her name as MARTHA J. BARNES WILLIAMS, (suggesting that her maiden name was BARNES) and in that same posting he later annotated her name as MARTHA J. WILLIAMS BARNES, thereby suggesting that her maiden name was WILLIAMS. I'm not sure if he intended to imply that he didn't know what her maiden name was, or if it was simply an error, of which, in his many postings, he made very few.
In researching the BARNES and BARNES in the 1840 U.S. Federal Census, I have discovered the following possible households in Clinton and Wayne Counties:
Bury (Berry?) Burns (or perhaps Barnes?) had several children in the household including one female 5-10 years of age.
Anna Barnes (Eli's widow) (listed four residences from “Bury Burns” above) had several children in the household including one female 5-10 years of age.
Jane Barnes (age 40-50) with one male 10-15 and one female child 5-10 years of age.
Ozias Barnes (age 30-40) with several children in the household, including 1 female age 5-10.
Additionally, of course is Nicodemus Barnes who was recorded in the 1840 as a pensioner, at the age of 80, (year of birth would be about 1760.) He did have one female <10 years living with him at the time, but it is doubtful (although not impossible) that the child is his daughter.
Of course, these are only those in Clinton and Wayne Counties, and I am hoping that you have additional documentation.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks for your input.
