Pre-1827 Anderson County sites in Wasington

Anderson County was formed in 1827 from portions of Franklin and Washington Counties. Can anyone tell me if the Alton area was in Franklin or Washington? (It was actually called "Rough and Ready" back then, later changed to "Alton.")

I am researching my ggggrandfather, John R Martin (1803, Virginia) who lived in the Alton area around 1830. His son, John Walker Martin, moved to the Waddy area, Shelby County.

Any information much appreciated.
