The page images for the 1820 census of Washington County, Kentucky, online at Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com have problems -- more so at Ancestry.com. I'm posting in the hope that I can save you some time and frustration -- and prevent errors.
The Washington County census was enumerated in three regions: the Town of Springfield, the Town of Lebanon, and the rest of the county "at large." The census pages are two-page spreads, and I'll use the page number written in pencil in the lower right-hand corner of the right side of the spread...
Washington County covers pages 18-88.
Pages 18 thru 37, plus part of 38, are "at large."
Part of p. 38 and part of p. 39 are Lebanon.
Part of p. 39 thru p. 77 are "at large."
Pages 78-80 are Springfield.
Pages 81-88 are "at large."
The images at Genealogy.com are mis-grouped. They have
Pages 18-37 labeled "NO TWP."
Pages 38-77 labeled "LEBANON."
Pages 78-88 labeled "SPRINGTREE."
Note that at Genealogy.com, what they call the "Page No." is the Microfilm Frame Number. To get the Frame Number, add 20 to the real page number; that is, by their reconing, they have Washington County on pages 38-108.
Things are worse at Ancestry.com. To begin with, they have skipped every other page and, in its place, substituted a duplicate image of the previous page. There's also a block of missing pages with nothing substituting for them. This is such a fatal flaw that I don't think I'll make the effort to describe how they've grouped them, except to say that it, too, is wrong, though different from Genealogy.com.
I have notified Ancestry.com, so hopefully they will fix the problem there. Genealogy.com doesn't give you any way to contact them that I can find, but at least if you're careful to ignore their labeling of the location, you can at least use the pages. Unless it actually says "Lebanon" or "Springfield" on the page, you are in the county "at large."
