Teri,
You’ve caught me at a bad time. We’re buying a house and actually close tomorrow. All of my genealogy material is packed away at the moment and I don’t have easy access to it. I don’t foresee unpacking those boxes until February at the earliest.

But, from memory, information I’ve received points to William Ingram and Mary (last name unknown, although possibly Currin) as Comfort’s parents.
Long ago I found an entry for the marriage of James Clarke and Comfort Ingram on a Bath County genealogy website, which indicated that Comfort’s mother Mary gave permission for her daughter to marry. Unfortunately, that website seems dead now when I enter the URL. Since then, I’ve received tidbits of info from other researchers who list William and Mary Ingram as her parents, although that still remains to be proven I believe.

As for the question on the origin of the name Comfort, I don’t know, but you have an interesting theory.

Your info mentions a surname that I came across while researching another ancestry path into Washington County, VA, which is next to Grayson County. Do you mind if I send a separate e-mail to you with a query on that?

Rusty
