Hi cousin Jerry! Fleming was my GGG-Grandpa, and I also descend from Fleming's sister Elizabeth on another line. Fleming's parents were Pleasant Childers 1763-1838 (s/o unknown) and Sarah Jeffries 1763-1843(d/o Nathaneal Jeffries & Mary unknown). I joined D.A.R. on Pleasant, who was a Revolutionary War Continental soldier with the 5th N.C. Regiment - Continental Line. Nobody knows who Pleasant's parents were, and if they tell you they do, I'd ask them for the paper documentation! I say this because I actually lived in the county in North Carolina where Pleasant grew up, and I checked county records and NC Archives and never once found anything that showed who his parents or siblings might have been. Something might exist, but after an exhaustive search, I was not able to come up with anything. So, just be VERY wary of what you find online because some folks try to force-fit their genealogies without actual documented proof. Pleasant and Sarah had the following children: 1) Lucinda Childers m. Joseph Elswick 2) Elizabeth Childers m. 1-George Belcher, 2-Alexander Clevenger (my line) 3) Jesse Childers m. Sarah Belcher 4) Nathaniel Childers m. Mary Jane Howell 5) Sarah Childers m. Richard Ratliff 6) Fleming Childers m. Charity Matney (my other line) 7) Pleasant Childers, Jr. m. 1-Frances Johnson, 2- Mary McClanahan My two lines are: GGGGG: Pleasant Childers & Sarah Jeffries GGGG: Elizabeth Childers & Alexander Clevenger GGG: Mary Clevenger & Isaac Moore, Jr. GG: George W. Moore & Hannah Minerva Mullins G: Maude Moore & Flem Childers GGGG: Pleasant Childers & Sarah Jeffries GGG: Fleming Childers & Charity Matney GG: John Wesley Childers & Elida Bartley G: Flem Childers & Maude Moore So, Pleasant and Sarah are both my 4th and 5th Gr-Grandparents! Some of the family use the Childress spelling like you, but our branches used the Childers spelling. Good to meet you cousin! Notify Administrator about this message?
