Katie B. Lewis
Katie B. Lewis, 72, of Adel, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Adel Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Hazard, Ky., to the late Nathaniel and Polly Ann Campbell Wooton on April 26, 1937. Formerly of Hazard, she had lived in Valdosta and Adel for the past 23 years. Mrs. Lewis attended Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta where she sang in the choir and Westside Baptist Church in Adel. She was a volunteer with the Head Start Program in Lowndes County and was a kind-hearted, free- spirited woman who was loving and generous with everyone she met. She loved Jesus and Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and a caretaker for her family and all those close to her.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen Campbell of Valdosta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe and Debi Lewis, James Lewis, all of Tifton; four grandchildren, Miranda (Dustin) Goode, Aleshia Lewis and Matt Lewis, all of Tifton, Lance Lewis of Valdosta. Also surviving are a great-granddaughter, Gracie Jo Goode of Tifton; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Lewis; a son, Quenten Lewis; a brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home in Hazard, Ky. Burial will follow in Krypton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home.
Locally, flowers will not be accepted, but flowers may be sent to the funeral home in Kentucky or donations may be made in Mrs. Lewis’s name to your favorite charity. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www.mclanefuneralservices.com. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
