I am searching for information on my great-grandmother's parents. My great-grandmother was America Sparks (b. 11.9.1854, Owsley Co.; d. 11.30.1928, Wolfe Co.), married to Mickleberry B. Townsend (b.9.3.1852, Estill Co.; d. 2.5.1923, Wolfe Co.).
America's parents were Harvey Dyer Sparks and Nancy Johnson. They appear on both the 1850 and the 1860 Census from Owsley, Ky. Harvey is listed as being from Virginia originally, while Nancy is from Kentucky.
Beyond this, I don't have anything on there families before them. I am hoping someone else has or is doing some research on the Sparks or Johnson families of Owsley County.
Harvey and Nancy's children were:
1) Mary Sparks (b. 1846)
2) Deborah Jane Sparks (b. 1849) m. Grandville Henderson Spencer
3) Sarah Sparks (b. 1849)
4) James Sparks (b. 1852)
5) America Sparks (b. 1854) m. Mickleberry Townsend
6) Caroline Sparks (b. 1857)
7) Margaret Sparks (b. 1859)
8) Emily Sparks (b. 1863) m. Joseph Spencer
