I am looking for any one who is related to Nicolas K. Daskalakis. My grandfather was born November 25, 1889 in Archanas, Crete. He had 3 older sisters their whereabouts are unknown. His family also owned a winery in the town.

In 1910 my grandfather boarded the ship Athinai and departed from Piraeus for the United States. He arrived at Ellis Island New York on July 27, 1910 at the age of 22.

He then moved to his friends, D. Salavordi or Salavardi (this came from Ellis Island manifest) who resided at 230 Central Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio. From September 20, 1917 to August 21, 1918 he was in the United States Army where lived at 331 Central Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio.

My grandfather then came to Kentucky where he worked at a Lexington, Kentucky downtown restaurant called The Old Manhattan. I believe in early 1940ís he met and then married my grandmother, Grace Edith and became the father of Mary Katherine and Helen Elaine.

He received his naturalization on June 17, 1943 in Kentucky. This is the same time he changed his name to Nick K. Demas. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Ohio this is where my aunt and my mother were christened. In 1949 he became an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Kentucky.

At some point during 1948-49 he suffered a stroke and later died May 4, 1949 in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 59 from 2 gun shot wounds to the head.

I have been looking for some time now and I honestly donít know where else to look. Most of this information came from Ellis Island archives, from the family and the kind people who are helping. You can access our homepage to look at pictures that are of my grandfather and his family. If you have any information on where I could look about his family or if you think you may be related please e-mail at
