William Lewis (1750-1832) and his wife, Ann Montgomery( 1760- 1828) of "Mount Pleasant". Fauquier Co., VA, sold their son, Searles, the 500 acre tract of land in Nelson Co., Ky, left them by her father, William Montgomery,(1730- 1803) on 19 Oct 1816. (Fauquier Co. Deeds, Bk 20, p.14).William Montgomery, of Prince William Co., VA had patented the 500 acre and a 2,000 acre and a 1,000 acre tract in Nelson Co. in the 1780s. The rights to the three thousand acres had been assigned him by William Mitchell, Overseer of Robert Carter's "Cancer" plantation, which was across Sudley Road from the Montgomery "Rosemount" and "Mt. Pony" tracts.
Searles' family had moved to Bloomfield, Ky by 1820, where they appear on p. 200 of the Nelson Co. Census for that year, next to a Thomas Lewis, son of James Lewis of Loudon Co., VA, a brother of William, who had married William's dau. Ann, or Anna, Montgomery Lewis. and moved there with them.
Searles Lewis was b. 6 Aug 1786, probably at Ravensworth in Fairfax Co., and d. 21 Jun 1848, at Boomfield, Nelson Co., Ky. He married Harriet Bennett, dau, of Dozier Bennett and Ann Vaughan of Cub Run, Fairfax Co. Ann Vaughan was the dau. of Cornelius Vaughan of Loudon Co. and his wife, Mary Threlkeld, dau. of Christopher and Susanna Threlkeld of Stafford Co., Va. Dozier Bennett was the son of Joseph Bennett of Fairfax Co. and his wife, Martha Dozier, dau. of Richard Dozier of Westmoreland Co. and his wife, Elizabeth, dau. of Bryan and Mary Hodgson or Hudson.
Searles' brother, Francis Montgomery Lewis, had married Harriet's sister , Martha ("Patsy") Bennett, so the two families were very close.

12. Charles Augustus ("Gus") Lewis, b. 23 Oct 1839,
d. 25 May 1864, during the Civil War. He was a soldier with
Gen John Hunt Morgan's Command. He had been wounded
and captured, escaped to Canada, and was staying in Chatham,
Ontario, from where he wrote two extant letters home to his
sister, Ann Montgomery Lewis Davis, wife of Charles Augustus
Davis, in Nov. and Dec. of 1863. He apparently started back to
Kentucky in the spring of 1864 and was shot and killed by a
"home guard" in Glasgow, KY on 25 May 1864, and after a
struggle by his family to reclaim his body, was buried in the
cemetery on the family farm near Bloomfield. Unmarried.
Note: The Lewis family farm is described in "The History of the Bloomfield Christian Church and Its' People" by Ruth R Green, 1984, as being on Tunnel Mill Road on the Hamm Shewmaker Place. The family graveyard has apparently had any gravestones removed.
