Thanks for you post and your interest. I have been tracing this BARTLETT line (mine) since 1974! Of all the 15 children of Thomas BARTLETT c1730-1806, his daughter, Nancy Anne, is probably the most elusive.
I've recently found a copy of a purported Bible page which agrees with my estimated dates of Thomas's children - it has Ann & Benjamin BARTLETT (twins) b 12 Jan 1764.
The only other two facts I've ever found are in the original post.
To put the Deed into perspective, Thomas moved from Fauquier to Harrison Co, VA in 1785; most of his married children went with him. I don't know when or where daughter Nancy married Thomas HALL. I've not been able to nail down a record of Thomas HALL in either Fauquier or Harrison Co, VA [help!]. In 1798 Thomas BARTLETT began gifting Land and Slaves to his his children, and by his death c1806, he had given virtually everything away. I can only presume that the gift to Anne had already been made and the Deed was documenting that fact [I've scoured the Personal Property Tax Lists of Harrison Co (1785-1850) and there is no Thomas HALL there before 1800]. Again, I can only presume, based on lack of any record of Thomas HALL in Harrison Co, VA, that Thomas HALL and Ann BARTLETT married in Fauquier Co, VA and left from there for Nelson Co, KY. Here is my extract of that Deed:
Harrison Co, VA; Deed [DB3:362]; 17 Dec 1798; Thomas BARTLETT to his daughter Anne HALL of Nelson Co, KY ... a Negro slave woman named Abigail, then to her daughter Elizabeth HALL; Sig: Thomas BARTLETT; Wit: John W. LOOFBOURROW, Benjamin BARTLETT, Sanford BARTLETT, Robert BARTLETT and John J. WALDO
The July 1816 Suit in Harrison Co, VA was about two of Thomas BARTLETT's children vs. all the other heirs (including "Thomas HALL and Nancy, his wife") over some land division.
I have seen the Thomas HALL married Anne BARTLETT CHINN item many times, but have not found any records to back it up. Can you provide an extract of the Fayette Co, KY records that indicate Thomas HALL m Anne CHINN? My thought is that someone, online, has noted the Deed above and guessed that the Harrison Co, VA Thomas BARTLETT was the father of Anne BARTLETT CHINN (unless there is some record to back up that claim, I would discount it). How do we know when Christopher CHINN died? Do we know where?
Although I've seen the Anne BARTLETT CHINN HALL story many times, I have not seen any records to back this story up, so (a) I am suspicious about it, and (b) think it's a stretch to link Anne BARTLETT b 1764 and living in Fauquier Co, VA in early 1780s to this story. But "my" Nancy Anne BARTLETT somehow DID get to Nelson Co, KY by 1798...
What's your theory?
