My g-g-g-grandmother Sarah Elizabeth STOPHER (b. Mercer Co, KY 1847) was married to a Mathew J. SNIDER for a short time. The only record I have of this so far is the birth of their daughter Martha Jane Snider, born in Nelson County, Kentucky on September 19, 1878. The birth record says that the parents were both residents of Nelson County, KY and that Mathew was born in Prussia. Sarah's maiden name in the birth record is spelled STOFER, not STOPHER. I cannot find a Mathew Snider that seems to match in the 1870 census, nor the 1880 census. In 1880, Sarah is living with the daughter Martha "Mattie" Snider, and children Mary Bohannon McKnight (b. 1867) and Robert Henry McKnight (b. 1872), from her previous marriage to Thomas McKnight. The children Mary and Robert McKnight are both listed under the name Snider. Her husband Mathew Snider is not listed. Who was Mathew Snider? I don't have a birth date, parents or siblings, or anything else on him. I also don't know if they had any other children, but a distant Stopher cousin says they also had a son Edward. I can't find any connection to an Edward Snider. He either died before 1880 or was born right after, and had moved out on his own somewhere by the 1900 census. Sarah remarried George DESURNE (also called Dezarn) of Bullitt County in 1882, so Mathew either died or they divorced. Any help is appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
