Lasleys in Nelson Co., 1850s

My great grandfather was James Preston Lasley (names Leslie, Lesley, Lassly etc. were also used) who was in Posey Co., IN from 1855-1864 when he joined the Union army. Prior to 1855 he was supposedly in KY where he was apparently born ca 1834-1840. There were two James Lasleys in the 1850 census of Nelson Co. that would the the approx. correct age. I have been at a real "brick wall" for a year trying to document "my" James. P. Lasley/Leslie prior to 1855. Any help wopuld be appreciated. As much info as I know about "my" Lasleys is posted at < http://www.greglasley.net/lasley.html > if anyone is interested in having a look.
