Are Early Marriage Dates Correct?

My acestor was Benjamin Dexter, who married Elizabeth "Betsy" Nalley. According to the 1810 census in Muhlenberg County, and census records through 1870 in Alexander Co., Ill., she was born about 1795 in Maryland or Virginia.

In Muhlenberg Co., Ky., is a marriage record for Benjamin Dexter to Elizabeth ALLEY on 15 Aug 1801. I am sure this is my ancestor, but the year is incorrect. I think it should be 1810, when Elizabeth was 15 years old. The original marriage licenses have been lost (or so I have been told). The Dexter-Alley license is #183, but #184 is an 1812 marriage. Has anyone else found discrepencies in dates for early Muhlenberg County marriages?

Does anyone have information on W. Henderson who performed the Dexter-Alley marriage? Was he living in Muhlenberg County as early as 1801?
