Sylvia - Records from Montgomery County are hard to find since the court house in Mt. Sterling, the county seat, burned in 1851 and again 1863 and at least once more after that. The current court house was completed in 1959 and stands on the same site as the 5 previous ones.

My parents, grandparents and greatgrandparents all lived in the area but I've had trouble finding any birth, marriage or death records for them.

There is a small genealogy section at the Mt. Sterling-Montgomery Co. Library - 241 W. Locust St., Mt. Sterling, KY 40353, telephone 859-498-2404, e-mail mtsterlinglibrary@yahoo.com. You are sort of on your own to do research there and I don't think they have anyone available to look things up. Perhaps someone there could tell you how to go about looking for old records.

Good luck in your search.
