Thank you for your response. The information you have is all true to my Joseph Rider. Joseph Rider was in Cumberland County at least by 1874 when he married Hannah Harriett Dyer and left for Haywood County, North Carolina sometime around 1887 with all his family. The tale is handed down that his children were going to be bound out to a master, so he left. He lived the rest of his life in the Balsam/Saunooke area of Haywood County,NC until his death around 1935. Although North Carolina was supposed to have required a death certificate for any death after 1913, Joseph does not even have a death certificate on record. I can follow him from Cumberland County, Ky till his death. So far, I have been unable to find any information prior to 1874. Again, thank you for repsonding to my message. Elaine
