Hester Smith
Hester Smith, age 89, of Hamilton, passed away at Ft. Hamilton Vitas Hospice Unit on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky, on November 5, 1913, the daughter of Butler and Louisa (Wagers) Smith. Hester was employed as a cook at Miami University in Oxford for 10 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Cherry Valley United Baptist Church. On September 15, 1937, in Manchester, Kentucky, she married Osba Smith, who preceded her in death in 1997.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Smith and his wife Nancy of Schertz, Texas, Russell Smith and his wife Jennifer, and Ralph Smith and his wife Debbie, both of Hamilton; three daughters, Ruby Crawford and her husband John of Kingsport, Tennessee, Roberta Leak and her husband Robert, and Loretta Jackson and her husband Randy, both of Hamilton; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Raleigh Smith; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, July 21, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Roger Williams, Pastor of Cherry Valley United Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Vitas Hospice for all their care and support.

Born April 25, 1921, in Clay County, Kentucky, he was a retired coal miner and member of the True House of Prayer Holiness church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara (Smallwood) Smith and Floyd Smith; and his wife, Flora (Sizemore) Smith.
Survivors include four daughters, Glenna Walker, Catherine Broyles, Flora Smith, all of London, Kentucky, and Clara Melson of Keavy; seven sons, Mahan Smith, Millard Smith, Clerndon Smith, Charley Smith, Clifford Smith, all of London, Kentucky, Willie Ray Smith of Lily, Kentucky, and Elbert Smith of Tazwell, Tennessee; a sister, Goldie Smith of Girdler, Kentucky; three brothers, Arthur Smith of Clay County, Kentucky, Forster Smith of Hamilton, Ohio, and Ray Smith of London, Kentucky; 36 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the London Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Wagers and the Rev. Daniel Lee Smith officiating. Burial followed in the True House of Prayer Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
Pallbearers were Todd Smith, Jeremiah Smith, James Smith, George Smith, Jeremy Smith, Steve Sizemore, Willie Ray Smith Jr., and Billy McFadden.
