I certainly don't claim to be a KY Pro, but do love a mystery. And I may be adding to your woes here, but if I'm reading right, you haven't found your ancestors on the 1860 or 1870 census. Try looking at the 1860 and 1870 Covington, Kenton Co, KY censuses...but not for Charles Bradley. Here are the listings: 1860-Charles DeGray 35 b. NY, Catherine 26 b. PA, Mary 4 b. KY, and Eugenia 1 (a female) b. KY. WAIT...keep reading: 1870 same location---Chas DeGray 46 b. NY, Kate 36 b. PA, Mary E 13, Eugene B 10 (MALE), Hortense 6, and William B 2. All the children were born in KY. Also in the 1870 HH are Rachel McCracken 39 b. PA and etta Clark 19 b. OH. I think further research will show that Catherine was the daughter of Hugh B McCracken and Elizabeth Mary (or vice versa)??? They are in Pendleton Co KY in the 1860 census and have a daughter, Rachel 29. There is also a son called Jefferson 13 who I suspect is the Thomas McCracken shown as a brother to Catherine on the 1880 census. Catherine also probably had brothers named Hugh, Allen C, George A, Robert, and Adam. Catherine McCracken 22 md. Charles DeGray 30 on Mar 1, 1855, I believe in Pendleton Co. Found that info on FamilySearch. If I were guessing, I'd say maybe Catherine md. a Bradley later and all the children took his name---OR Charles chose to be DeGray for whatever reason. Be interesting to know. Good Luck.
