Selections of notes from Chester McCracken- clerk of Pleasant Hill circa 1927-1939. January 1927- April 1927 building a new church. Dedication preached by J. Cunningham in August 1927. On the first Lords Day in September 1927, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church began a ten days revival meeting. The pastor was assisted by Brother G.O. Cavanaugh $28.35. On the last night of the meeting the church was called to order and extended an opportunity for membership. Brother R.C. Gray and wife were taken under watch care of the church awaiting their letter. The church then voted that the Association be asked to meet with us at the next session. Adjourned A.F. Hanberry moderator C.R. McCracken clerk On the third Lords day in September 1927 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after song and prayer service the church was called to order and elected Brother J.B. Dobbins moderator….(portion of entry only.) On Monday night after the third Lords day in July 1931 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met for the purpose of beginning a revival meeting, which lasted twenty days. The first two weeks the pastor was assisted by Brother H.C. Hopewell. The meeting resulted in forty-three conversions and fifty additions to the church by baptism as follows: Phineas Robert, Raymond & Harold Stovall, Waymon Lester, Travis and Ola Terrell, Nora Belle Towery, Paul Grubbs, Dorothy Groves, Dorothy Davis, Trela May and Dora McCracken, Addie Stovall, Otho and Mary Fitts, Levi Dunning, Glenn Holsapple, Alfred Salyers, Luther Barrett, Lola (sp?) and Robert Barrett, Jim and Robert Pierce, Russell Campbell, Ray Robertson, Preston Oliver, Eddie Galusha, Opal Fitts, Phineas Gray, Laura Belle Groves, Acre Browning, Eva Lee Williams, Thomas Glass, Louise Browning, Shirley Gray, Mabel Farless, Paul McKinney, Haskell Parks, Douglas Dobbins. By Letter: Henry Grace, William and Leola Wells, Ruth Grubbs, Clifton Hall. On Saturday before the first Lords day in September 1931 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after a sermon by Brother J.?. Spurlin the church was called to order. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The church then elected Brothers: Luke Glass, Ferd Stovall and Levi Dunning as messengers to the Association with Brother Waymon Terrell as alternate. The church elected Brother Luke Glass as our member to the executive board. Brother James Gray was received by the church as a candidate for baptism. On the following day Brother Thomas Gray was received by the church. On the second Lords Day in September 1931 the church met at the waters edge for the purpose of administering baptism to the following candidates: James, Thomas and Frank Gray. Frank Gray having joined at the waters edge. On Saturday before the first Lords day in February 1932 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after a sermon by the pastor the church was called to order. The minutes of the alst meeting were read and approved. Sister Geneva Gray was received into the church by letter from Eddy Creek Church. The church rescinded the act of granting Brother Frank Gray a letter of dismissal as he decided to remain with us. It was voted that we invite the missionary rally meet with us. It was then voted that the first Sunday in May be established as Communion Day. On Saturday before the first Lords day in August 1932 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after a sermon by the pastor the church was called to order. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The church then elected the following messengers to the association: F.A. Stovall, Luke Glass and Louis Dobbins and Edd Pierce alternate. The church voted to continue the regular third Sunday services the call to stand indefinitely. The church withdrew the hand of fellowship from Fred Oliver at his own request. The clerk was authorized to notify by letter: Russell Robertson, Ray Robertson, Acre Browning, Paul McKinney, Otho Fitts to appear before the church to on Saturday before the first Lords day in September to answer to the charge of misconduct. On the first Lords day in September 1932 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after a sermon by the pastor the church was called to order. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The church withdrew the hands of fellowship from Russell Robertson, Ray Robertson, Acre Browning, Paul McKinney and Otho Fitts. On the first Lords day in August 1933 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met to begin a 15 days revival meeting. The pastor being assisted by J.D. Dameron. The meeting resulted in four professions and eleven renewing their spiritual covenant, addition to the church by baptism five, as follows: Maggie Jones, EvaLee Stovall, Ora Hall, Porter Rogers and Pauline Rogers. By letter, three: Herschel Oliver, Finis Stovall, and Carl Rogers. On Saturday before the first Lords day in February 1936 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after a sermon by Brother J.R. Flynn the assistant moderator H.E. Groves called the church to order. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Brother R.C. Gray and his wife Geneva were granted letters of dismissal to join Macedonia Baptist Church. On Saturday before the first Lords Day in June 1936 Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met and after a sermon by the pastor the church was called to order. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The church voted to begin its revival meeting the third Sunday in July and to get Brother Marvin Hall to help the pastor in the meeting. On Saturday before the first Lords day in March 1939 Pleasant Hill church met and after a sermon by our pastor the church was called to order. Gave and opportunity for membership. An motion the church set the time for a meeting of days to begin on Monday night after the second Sunday in September 1939 and the church invited Reverend Guy Hall to help in the meeting. Adjourned.
