Major Ryan-- Page families?

I am lost. I wonder if somebody can tell me what this means? A Major Ryan had just disappeared from my family tree. In another tree it states that Major Ryan and Molly (Mary) Lemay Ryan had joined the Page families in Logan County Kentucky and the household did not appear in the 1820 or 1830 census. The use of the word FAMILIES throws me off. Anybody?
